A 25-Day Advent Devotional

A REASON TO BE GENEROUS THIS CHRISTMAS
 Day Twenty-Three: Saturday December 23

The sound of a Salvation Army bell ringing, a child’s wish written in crayon hung on a Christmas tree, hot meals served to strangers on a cold day. The holidays bring many opportunities to serve others.

When Jesus returned to heaven, His mission “to proclaim good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives” became ours to continue (Isaiah 61:1)

Whether we give our money, our time, or both, giving is what Jesus wants us to do. We bless others because Jesus blesses us.

We are living in the time of the Lord’s favor that Isaiah describes. Favor is simply another way of describing God’s approval and delight. We receive God’s favor, not because of anything we’ve done, but because Jesus died for our sin.

God established an eternal covenant with us through Jesus. This time of the Lord’s favor is now! Jesus has come, paid for our sin, and is preparing His forever kingdom. No matter our circumstances, we are blessed.

We may not have as much as someone else, but we have what we need to continue Jesus’ mission until He returns. Take time to bless others through generosity. Look for opportunities in the church and in the community to serve others. As we do, people start to see there’s something special about God’s people, and His goodness becomes known among the nations (Isaiah 61:8-9).

·  Action Step: Making a Difference Through Generosity

Identify one specific way you can be generous this Christmas season, whether through financial giving, volunteering your time, or offering support to someone in need. Act on this commitment, recognizing that your generosity has the power to impact lives and reflect God's love.

·  Conversation Starter for Family/Friend: Discovering Purpose in Generosity

Initiate a conversation with your family or friends about the joy and purpose found in giving. Share personal experiences of generosity, discussing the impact it had on both the giver and the receiver. Encourage others to share their stories and explore how generosity aligns with discovering one's purpose.

·  Prayer Point: Knowing God Personally Through Generosity

Dear Lord, thank You for the abundance of blessings You've bestowed upon me. Help me to be a channel of Your generosity and love to those around me. Guide me in discovering the purpose You have for me in giving, and may my acts of generosity make a difference in the lives of others. In doing so, may I know You more personally and reflect Your heart to the world. Amen.
